Rainnbow obsidian is a type of obsidian that has a rainbow-like appearance due to light reflecting off of mineral inclusions. It's a naturally occurring glass that's formed when lava cools quickly.
How it's formed
Lava from a volcanic eruption cools rapidly when it reaches the Earth's surface
The rapid cooling prevents large mineral crystals from growing, resulting in a glassy structure
Microscopic mineral inclusions, often magnetite nanoparticles, are present in the obsidian
The way these inclusions are distributed in the obsidian creates the rainbow-like sheen
