Malachite is a vibrant green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral that is renowned for its swirling banded patterns, popular in jewelry and ornamental carvings. It is a soft stone, with a Mohs hardness of 3.5 to 4, found worldwide in copper deposits, notably in the DRC, Russia, and Australia. Historically used as a green pigment, it is now largely a minor copper ore, decorative stone, and popular healing crystal.
