Grape agate is a trade name for a rare, purple form of botryoidal chalcedony, not a true agate, named for its clusters of tiny, grape-like spheres that form in volcanic cavities, primarily found in Sulawesi, Indonesia. These beautiful mineral formations are actually microcrystalline quartz with colors from lavender to deep purple, sometimes with green hues, formed from silica-rich fluids crystallizing slowly over millions of years.
