Dendritic opal is a variety of common (non-precious) opal, often called Merlinite or Moss Opal, characterized by a milky white or translucent body with dark, fern-like branching inclusions of manganese or iron oxide. It is frequently used in jewelry, such as cabochons, pendants, and beads, due to its unique "landscape" patterns and is valued for its supposed calming, grounding, and balancing energies.
