Rainbow moonstone is a type of labradorite (a feldspar mineral) that exhibits a striking labradorescence, a play of colors due to internal reflection of light within the stone. This "rainbow" effect, often seen as a blue or other colorful sheen, is what distinguishes it from traditional moonstone, which typically shows a more subtle adularescence (a milky or pearly sheen).
