Iolite and Sunstone Pendant

Iolite sunstone is a rare, natural combination of iolite (cordierite) and sunstone (plagioclase feldspar):

Iolite

The iolite half of the specimen has a bluish violet color and red hematite platelet inclusions. It also has intense pleochroism, which means it can appear different colors when viewed from different angles, such as blue, violet, smoky blue, and gray. Iolite is also known for its high birefringence, which means it can split light into different rays and be used as a polarizing filter.

Sunstone

The sunstone half of the specimen has an orange aventurescence effect from tiny copper-colored hematite platelets.

The stone has been set into a vintage style sterling silver pendant and comes with an 18 inch steel chain.
